Periodontal Osteoplasty: Surgical Strategy for the Treatment of the Gummy Smile - Case Report

The aesthetics of the smile are fundamental for oral heal than the psychosocial well-being of patients. Periodontics plays a crucial ole in this context, especially in cases of gingival smile, characterized by excessive gum exposure. This study presents a case report of a 34-year-old female patient with a gingival smile, diagnosed with altered passive eruption and gingival over growth, confirmed by computed tomography. The treatment involved osteoplasty and gingivoplasty, including the removal of bony exostosis and gingival adjustment. The recovery was positive, demonstrating that periodontal osteoplasty is na effective option for improving smile aesthetics and patients' self-esteem. Careful surgical planning is essential for the success of the treatment. Further studies are needed to refine techniques and validatelong-term efficacy, high lighting osteoplasty as a viable alternative in contemporary dental practice.
