Free gingival Graft (FGG) of palatal mucosa as a seal for a socket after extraction.

Preserving the three-dimensional structure of the dental socket after extraction is desirable in implant rehabilitation, especially in the aesthetic area. Physiologically, the post-extraction socket undergoes remodeling and loses height and thickness. One way of mitigating this physiological loss would be to seal the fresh socket with a synthetic membrane or autogenous tissue, which improves the socket's microenvironment, generating optimal biological conditions for repair. The Free Gingival Graft (FGG) technique, harvested from the palate, is simple to perform and can be used as an alveolar seal. This paper reviews the indications, advantages and limitations of this technique in alveolar preservation after tooth extraction.
