Abstract

The incessant search for aesthetic dental treatments has shown a notable increase in recent years, leading to the preference for procedures that provide immediate results, such as dental veneers, as the primary option. However, inappropriate use and without adequate planning of these veneers can cause damage to the periodontal tissue. This study reviews existing literature to highlight the negative effects on periodontal tissue due to incorrect use of direct and indirect veneers. The analysis was based on articles and books from specialized health sources, such as Scielo, Google Scholar and Pubmed. The review emphasizes the importance of preserving biological space and following fundamental principles during aesthetic procedures to avoid injuries. It is concluded that the application of veneers requires careful evaluation, multidisciplinary knowledge, technical competence, ethics in treatment and adherence to protocols to prevent gingival inflammation and periodontal damage.
