Abstract

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of inherited connective tissue disorders characterized by alterations in collagen organization, which is also found in periodontal tissues. Therefore, the objective of this case report was to analyze the progression of periodontal disease in a patient with Hypermobile EDS. A syndromic patient diagnosed with Hypermobile EDS underwent periodontal evaluation and was diagnosed with gingivitis and gingival recession. Supragingival scaling of all elements and oral hygiene instructions were performed. Early-onset periodontitis is a predominant feature of EDS due to altered collagen organization and tissue fragility, leading to gingival recession, inflammatory processes and bone loss. Therefore, for patients diagnosed with EDS, the primary goal of oral treatment is to assist in maintaining oral health for as long as possible
